Chopper Read is the author of 10 crime novels which have sold well
over 500,000 coppies in Australia and in 1997 he top secretly recorded a music CD, while serving a custodial sentance in a
maximum security jail in Tasmania ( Risdon Prison ).
Chopper had a Cassette player and Recorded himself Talking and then had the cassette smuggled to the outside.
Cassette Recorders are now banned from the Prisons because of this.
The CD was called "The Smell Of Love EP" and it
was a finalist in the 1998 ARIA awards and "Rolling Stone Magazine" called it "The most inovative and intreging
CD release of 1997!"
The CD was also acredited with "music histories first "Hip Hop, Bluegrass cross-over track"
Not to bad from a guy that made his living praying on some of the hardest criminals in the underworld.
His second CD "Get Your Ears Off" is a dark and candid
recording that captures the real essence of who "Chopper" really is. The only way of describing
it would be spending an hour in a room with the lad while your experiencing some sort of "Acid, Psycodelic" trip........
